Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the United Kingdom on tax administration and institutional reforms.
The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, stated this while receiving the outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery.
Adedeji commended Montgomery for his support for Nigeria’s tax reform agenda and his contributions to stronger collaboration between the two countries in revenue administration and public policy.
The NRS chairman appreciated the outgoing envoy for the personal and technical support provided to Nigeria’s reform efforts during his tenure.
“The way you’ve done this work actually changed the story, most especially your support, both personal as well as the technical assistance for our reforms.”
He said Montgomery’s engagements with the NRS had contributed to shaping the agency’s reform efforts and expressed appreciation for his commitment to Nigeria.
Adedeji also noted that the relationship between Nigeria and the UK had gone beyond financial assistance, stressing the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving sustainable development.
The engagement further highlighted the cooperation between the NRS and the UK on tax administration and institutional reforms.
Montgomery, who is leaving Nigeria after serving as British High Commissioner, was also commended for his role in supporting the country’s ongoing tax reform programme.
Adedeji expressed confidence that the strong relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom would continue under Montgomery’s successor.
The development comes as the Federal Government continues efforts to strengthen revenue generation, improve tax administration and build more effective public institutions.
