The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has described opposition leaders as the primary architects of their own political misfortunes.
During his appearance on TVC News’ Beyond the Headlines on Wednesday, the APC National Scribe he questioned the leadership competence of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Basiru noted that the recent wave of defections into the APC serves as a direct indictment of the incompetence and lack of dedication within the opposition camp.
He described Peter Obi’s recent political movements and the inability to maintain a stable party structure as clear indicators of poor leadership.
According to Basiru, competence, dedication, and devotion are the non-negotiable pillars of true leadership, qualities he claims are currently absent among opposition figures.
“Leadership is not about moving from one platform to another when things get tough,” Basiru stated, adding that such political drifting signals a lack of the character required to lead a nation.
Addressing the frequent legal battles and leadership tussles within groups like the Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Basiru noted that while no party is immune to friction, the quality of leadership determines the outcome.
He emphasized that the APC remains unconcerned with the legal cases or internal systems of other parties, as the ruling party focuses its energy on strengthening its own structure.
He maintained that when crises arise within the APC, the party utilizes internal consultation and mutual respect to resolve them, thereby avoiding the kind of implosions seen elsewhere.
In a statement that further sidelined smaller political groups, Basiru declared that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is the only major opposition party the APC currently acknowledges.
He dismissed other groups as being mired in self-inflicted issues and urged them to stop blaming the ruling party for crises they created themselves.
Basiru concluded by urging Nigerians to disregard the antics of opposition figures and maintain faith in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
He described the current government as the only platform truly devoted to national progress and the long-term stability of the country.
