A Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja on Friday, sentenced a 24-year-old man, Adam Abdulsalam, to a two weeks imprisonment for stealing a portable power bank.
The court convicted and sentenced Abdulsalam, who lives in Zone 7, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Hauwa Aboki, sentenced Abdulsalam following his guilty plea.
Aboki, however, gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine in lieu of the term in the correctional centre.
She said that the convict’s plea , saved the court the pain of prolonged persecution.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel , Bankole Babatunde holding the brief of Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the convict committed the offence on June 29.
Babatunde said that the complainant, Miss Comfort Oyechi, who resides at Idu-yard, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life camp Police Station.
He said that the convict worked in the same company with the complainant.
He said that the convict borrowed the complainant’s itel portable power bank to charge his phone and
didn’t returned it.
During Police investigation, the convict made a confession admitting to the offence and it was discovered that the he sold the power-bank for to N7000.
Babatunde said the offence contravenes section 312 and 287 of the penal code.
