The Federal Government is set to commence repair works on Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on July 28, an advisory by the Lagos State Government has revealed.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Mrs. Bolanle Ogunlola, the repair work to be carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works will begin on Tuesday, July 28, and is expected to last for two weeks
.The Ministry stated that motorists should expect partial traffic disruptions around the Kara axis throughout the rehabilitation period and urged road users to cooperate with traffic management officials deployed along the corridor.
It explained that the existing four-lane carriageway would be temporarily reduced to two lanes over a 1.5-kilometre stretch to create a safe work zone for the replacement of the bridge’s expansion joint.
The government noted that moderate traffic is anticipated around the Fatgbems turn, as some motorists may make U-turns or seek alternative routes to avoid delays.
However, it assured that traffic heading toward Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems turn is expected to flow with minimal disruption.
The Ministry advised motorists to plan their journeys ahead, consider alternative routes where necessary, obey traffic regulations, and comply with all advisories to minimize delays during the repair period.
It added that the rehabilitation aims to improve the safety and durability of the bridge for the benefit of all road users.
The Ministry further appealed for the understanding and cooperation of the public throughout the duration of the project
