The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade,” in Ile-Ife on Sunday.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the attention of the police was called to an accident that occurred around an energy filling station in Ile-Ife. Operatives were promptly deployed to the area to restore normalcy, secure the scene, and commence an investigation.
Preliminary findings revealed that Oyeyemi was shot.
“The Command is currently working to unravel the immediate and remote causes of the shooting, identify those responsible, and bring all persons found culpable to justice. The Command assures members of the public that every necessary investigative and operational measure is being taken to get to the root of the matter,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police for the Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Zungura, strongly condemned the act and urged individuals, groups, and members of the public not to take the law into their hands or engage in acts of reprisal, violence, property destruction, or any other form of criminality.
The Commissioner urged residents of Ile-Ife and the entire state to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with the police by providing useful information that may assist the investigation.
The Osun State Command assured citizens of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining peace and public order, and expressed condolences to the victim’s immediate family and friends.
