The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been warned against screening or fielding Governor Dapo Abiodun for any elective position while a suit remains pending before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
In a letter dated May 8, 2026, addressed to the APC National Chairman, Secretary, and Screening Committee, MJS Partners (Legal Practitioners & Consultants) noted that Suit No: FHC/L/CS/291/2026 is currently before the court.
Filed by the Human Global Resource Initiative and two others against INEC, the APC, and seven others, the suit challenges Governor Abiodun’s eligibility to contest elective office in Nigeria.
The letter, signed by Prof. Yemi Oke (SAN), reminded the party of a “Notice of Legal Caveat” served on March 19, 2026, and published in several national newspapers.
Oke noted that despite this, reports emerged on May 7, 2026, claiming the Governor had submitted nomination forms as the consensus senatorial candidate for Ogun East.
He warned that the APC must refrain from accepting or publishing the Governor as a candidate until the court reaches a determination.
Justice Aneke of the Federal High Court has adjourned the matter until July 9, 2026, for a definite hearing.
The plaintiffs seek several declarations regarding alleged false statements and inconsistencies in forms previously submitted to INEC.
These issues include educational qualifications and the alleged concealment of facts.
The suit aims to restrain the APC from fielding Abiodun and to prevent INEC from recognizing him as a candidate.
Oke maintained that the matter is sub judice and cautioned the APC against any actions that might undermine the judicial process or preempt the court’s decision.
“Please, be warned and treat this matter with the urgency it deserves,” the notice concluded.
