Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday gathered in Kebbi State for the Progressive First-Term Governors’ Meeting.

The meeting, held behind closed doors at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, is expected to deliberate on key national matters and issues concerning the ruling APC.

First-term governors are state chief executives serving their first four-year term in office.

Among those in attendance are the governors of Kaduna, Plateau, Ekiti, Delta, Zamfara, Kano, Jigawa, Ebonyi, Edo, Ondo, Kogi, Sokoto and Benue states, among others.

The governors were welcomed by the host governor, Nasir Idris, alongside the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

Providing updates on the arrivals through his Facebook page, Abuzaidu Yari, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Kebbi State Governor, said the gathering would centre on national development and the APC’s policy direction.

Announcing the arrival of the Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu, Yari wrote, “The arrival of His Excellency, the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Ahmad Aliyu, at the Kebbi State Government House, where APC governors will hold a special meeting to discuss important issues for the development of Nigeria.”

In another post, he announced the arrival of the governors of Kaduna, Ekiti, Plateau and Delta states.

“The arrival of the governors of Kaduna State, Sen. Uba Sani; Ekiti State, Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji; Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang; and Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, at the Kebbi State Government House, where APC governors will hold a special meeting to discuss important issues for the development of Nigeria.

“The governors received a special welcome from the host governor, Dr Nasir Idris, and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu,” he wrote.

The meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the governors to exchange ideas on governance, review policy implementation across their states and identify areas where collaboration can deliver better outcomes for citizens. Discussions are also anticipated to cover strategies for addressing economic challenges, improving service delivery and strengthening coordination between state governments under the APC.

In addition, participants are expected to explore ways of advancing the party’s development agenda, promoting good governance, encouraging sustainable economic growth and fostering national unity through closer intergovernmental cooperation.

Although the deliberations were held behind closed doors, the outcome of the meeting is expected to shape future engagements among APC-controlled states and influence the party’s policy direction ahead of upcoming political activities.

The Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum is expected to brief journalists on the resolutions reached at the end of the meeting, outlining the key decisions and areas of consensus agreed upon by the governors.
