Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to nominate a competent and experienced candidate capable of tackling Nigeria’s economic difficulties and reversing institutional decline ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Atiku made the call in a statement issued on Sunday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu.
He stressed that the choice before delegates at the party’s primary election goes beyond ordinary political considerations, describing it as a historic responsibility that will shape the nation’s future.
According to the former vice president, the ADC was established on the core values of transparency, accountability, inclusion, and democratic renewal.
He noted that Nigerians are seeking leadership that can effectively address pressing challenges, strengthen public institutions, and restore confidence in governance.
Atiku emphasized that the country requires a leader who is prepared to govern from day one, possessing a clear understanding of the nation’s economic realities and policy needs.
He urged delegates to carefully consider the party’s founding principles and the expectations of Nigerians when choosing its candidate, insisting that the task demands wisdom, vision, and a firm commitment to national development.
