The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that it has no partisan interest in who wins or loses the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Josiah Amupitan made this known on Tuesday during the signing of the National Peace Accord ahead of the upcoming presidential election, emphasizing that the electoral body is solely committed to neutrality, fairness, and institutional integrity.
“INEC has no interest in who wins or loses any election. The commission does not have a candidate, nor does it favour any political platform,” Amupitan stated.
The electoral body Chairman urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to refrain from character assassination and violence, calling on political actors to prioritize issue-based campaigning and present measurable manifestos that address the needs of citizens.
“Let the 2027 election campaign be a marketplace of ideas, not a theatre of war. Nigerians do not want insults; they want solutions. They deserve to hear clear, concrete, and measurable manifestos,” he added.
Amupitan reaffirmed that operational preparations for the 2027 nationwide exercise are moving forward with precision, noting that the commission is actively scaling up its logistics infrastructure and administrative capacity to manage the deployment of ad hoc personnel across polling stations throughout the country.
