The adage "Jack of all trades, master of none" falls flat in describing Amina Oyagbola, a towering figure in the Nigerian corporate space. She is a true Queen of many crowns, having not only worn them but mastered them all throughout an inspiring, four-decade career defined by integrity, impact, and transformation.

Oyagbola’s influence stretches across numerous fields. She currently serves as the Board Chair of Afrobarometer and is the visionary Founder & Chairperson of Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR). Her professional identity is a unique blend: she is a lawyer, independent director, strategic business adviser, global HR thought leader, executive mentor, and tireless gender advocate. Her versatile career journey spans law, banking, oil & gas, and telecommunications, culminating in a powerful legacy of corporate leadership.

Oyagbola’s enduring commitment to excellence is reflected in her academic pursuits. She earned her Law degree from Ahmadu Bello University and was called to the Bar. She further honed her expertise with a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Cambridge and an MBA from Lancaster University.

A Chartered Fellow of the CIPD (UK), she has continually refined her leadership skills through elite executive programs at institutions like INSEAD, Harvard Business School, IMD, and the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, mirroring her belief in continuous growth and professional refinement.

Oyagbola’s remarkable career, stretching over 40 years, began as a Legal Counsel at Chief FRA Williams Chambers in 1986. Her banking experience started at Crystal Bank of Africa in 1990, where she rose from Legal Adviser to Group Head, Consumer Banking.

She continued her ascent at United Bank for Africa (UBA), holding various leadership roles including Head of Legal Services, Head of Human Capital Management, and Head of the Private Banking Division. She then moved to the oil & gas sector as Head, HR Strategy, Standards and Business Planning at Shell Petroleum Development Company, focusing on aligning human resource strategy with organizational effectiveness.

Oyagbola cemented her reputation among Nigeria's most formidable executives at MTN Nigeria starting in 2004. Initially serving as the Corporate Services Executive, she expertly navigated the organization through Nigeria’s complex legal and regulatory landscape. She also spearheaded MTN’s Corporate Social Responsibility agenda as the pioneer Director of the MTN Foundation, transforming it into a national model for impactful CSR projects across health, education, and economic empowerment nationwide.

Her tenure culminated in the roles of Human Resources Executive and Human Resources and Corporate Services Executive, where she skillfully steered MTN through one of its most challenging regulatory periods, demonstrating resilience, strategy, and grace in leadership.

Driven by a profound desire to pay it forward and foster the growth of professional women, Oyagbola founded Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR). This non-profit organization provides structured mentorship for young professional women.

Through its programs, WISCAR has successfully guided hundreds of women towards achieving excellence, confidence, and clarity, thereby creating a robust network of empowered female leaders across diverse industries.

Beyond mentorship, Oyagbola continues to shape the business landscape through AKMS Consulting, where she serves as Managing Consultant, offering strategic business advisory services.

She is also a Partner at Oyagbola Chambers, providing corporate and commercial legal advisory services with unwavering integrity.

Amina Oyagbola’s journey is a powerful testament to the fact that over four decades, multidisciplinary experience blended with the precision of a strategist, the sharpness of a lawyer, and the compassion of a mentor can build a lasting legacy that actively shapes generations of successful women.
