Alleged ₦432bn fraud: Heavy security as ICPC arraigns El-Rufai

Security was airtight at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday as former Governor Nasir El-Rufai was formally arraigned on corruption charges involving the alleged diversion of over ₦432 billion during his administration.

This is as armed personnel cordoned off the court premises and restricted access to major arteries, including Aliyu Akilu Road near the NDA bus stop.
While vehicular traffic was diverted to neighboring routes to manage the gridlock, security operatives maintained a rigid perimeter around the complex.
The former governor arrived at approximately 9:20 a.m. clad in a green babanriga and was immediately ushered into the courtroom.
Despite the high public interest, journalists were barred from the proceedings as officials enforced strict entry protocols.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) confirmed that El-Rufai, alongside co-defendant Joel Adoga, faces charges in suit FHC/KD/73/2026.
The counts include alleged conversion and unlawful possession of public funds.
Beyond the federal case, the ICPC revealed a separate suit (No: KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26) filed at the Kaduna State High Court. That case names El-Rufai and Amadu Sule linked to the Kaduna State Livestock Development Agency and involves allegations of abuse of office and fraud, intent to commit fraud and conferring undue advantage.
Both matters were officially filed on March 18, 2026. While the federal proceedings have commenced, the ICPC stated that the date for the State High Court arraignment will be announced shortly.
The Commission assured the public that the former governor has been duly served and that prosecution will strictly adhere to the rule of law.
