Aiyedatiwa warns Ondo LG Chairmen against abuse of office

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has cautioned newly inaugurated local government chairmen against using their positions for personal enrichment, urging them to prioritise public service.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony in Akure, which was conducted by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Olusegun Odusola, Aiyedatiwa reminded the officials of their duty to serve with integrity and transparency.

He stressed that their oath of office was a solemn commitment to improving the lives of their constituents rather than an opportunity for self-aggrandisement.

“Leadership is a responsibility, not a privilege for personal gain. The people have entrusted you with power, and their expectations are high. You must not let them down,” he said.

The Governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening local governance, emphasising that the newly created 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) would remain in place to bring government closer to the people.

Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Mr Gbenga Fasua, expressed his enthusiasm for the role, pledging to focus on infrastructural development, including road construction and public facilities. Similarly, Akoko North-East Local Government Chairman, Mr Muhammed Mutiu, assured residents of his commitment to economic empowerment and community progress.
