Adeboye: God has decided Nigeria’s next President

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, says God has already chosen Nigeria’s next president, urging citizens to remain calm and prayerful ahead of the general elections.

Speaking at a workers’ meeting on Saturday at Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Adeboye said divine will supersedes human permutations.

“The next president has been decided by God. Our duty is to pray, not to panic,” he told the gathering.

The cleric encouraged RCCG members to participate in politics but stressed they must recognise God’s final authority in leadership.

“Get involved. Vote. But know that God rules in the affairs of men,” he said.

Adeboye also dismissed claims linking the church to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“RCCG has no ties to APC or any party. We belong to God,” he stated.

The remarks drew swift reactions online and offline. Some Nigerians expressed skepticism, questioning why spiritual declarations were not matched with direct action on insecurity and poverty.

Others welcomed the call for political participation, saying citizens should still vote their conscience despite the tense climate.

“Pastors should speak to power about killings and hunger,” one respondent posted on X. Another wrote: “If God has chosen, we will still go out and vote freely.”

Adeboye’s comment comes as political activities intensify nationwide ahead of the polls. Nigeria faces rising inflation, banditry in the North-West, and farmer-herder clashes in the Middle Belt, issues many expect to shape voter decisions.

The RCCG leader has in the past elections urged prayers for the country but avoided endorsing candidates. Saturday’s statement reiterated that stance, while pushing members toward civic engagement.

“The church will not campaign for any party, but we will not stop our people from voting and contesting,” Adeboye added.
