Adamawa warns principals against registering external candidates for SSCE

Adamawa government has warned Principals of public secondary schools against registering external candidates for writing senior secondary school examinations.
Dr Garba Pella, Commissioner, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, gave the warning at an emergency meeting with the principals across 21 Local Government Areas in Yola on Friday.
According to him, from the information before them, 99 per cent of principals registered external candidates to get money because the state government is paying for both the National Examinations Council (NECO) and West African Examinations Council (WEAC).
“The reason why the state government is offering free WEAC and NECO is to ease the burden on some parents and guardians who cannot afford to pay for their children in public schools and to solve problems of out-of-school”, he said.
He had earlier expressed dismay over the outcome of NECO results for the year 2025 that many students have failed to get good results.
Pella said, “Henceforth, for students to qualify to write the exams, they must posses 75 per cent of attendance and pass mock examination.
“These will make the students to be serious in their studies against their attitudes of ignoring schools when they find themselves in their final year”.
Pella charged the principals to take ownership of government facilities in their respective schools as the government had invested much for the development of education in the state.
He further commended them for their roles in managing the schools and urged them to double effort as the role models in shaping the minds of their students.
Alhaji Dahiru Abubakar, President, All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Adamawa chapter, appealed to the state government to introduce responsibility allowance to principals.
He said his members were doing their best in discharging their duties but they faced some challenges, calling for allowances to encourage them do better
