Police in Kano seize counterfeit Naira and Dollar notes valued at N129bn

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the seizure of counterfeit currencies valued at N129 billion in Kano state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Muyiwa Adejobi, the NPF spokesperson, revealed that three suspects, identified as Nura Ibrahim, Muhammed Muntari, and Usman Abdullahi, were arrested in connection with the operation.
“On December 8, 2024, police operatives acting on credible intelligence apprehended Nura Ibrahim in Gwale, Kano state,” the statement read. “During a search, officers uncovered N392,000 in counterfeit naira notes, $7,800 in fake US dollars, and five ATM cards. Further investigation led to the arrest of his accomplices, Muhammed Muntari and Usman Abdullahi, and the recovery of additional counterfeit currencies, totaling N129,542,823,000. This included 3,366,000 counterfeit US dollars, 51,970 counterfeit CFA francs, and 1,443,000 counterfeit naira notes.”
In a separate operation, Adejobi reported the arrest of three suspected gunrunners along the Kaduna-Kano expressway. The suspects, identified as Buhari Suleiman, Jamil Yakubu, and Aliyu Abdullahi, were intercepted after their suspicious activities drew the attention of police operatives.
“A search of the suspects revealed 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one round of AK-47 ammunition,” Adejobi said.
The police commended the efforts of the operatives and reaffirmed their commitment to combating crime and ensuring public safety.
