Kano Gov. seeks extension of World Bank’s projects
The Kano State Government has called for the extension of the World Bank intervention projects to fast track social and economic development of the state.
Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf stated this during a courtesy visit by the World Bank Country Director, Mr Shubham Chaudhuri, on Tuesday in Kano.
He said the state government wanted the World Bank to consider Kano among its first priority areas in its multidimensional poverty eradication intervention owing to the population status.
Kabir-Yusuf pledged commitment towards ensuring effective monitoring and adherence to standards of the project frameworks, stressing that his administration is well known for its drive towards quality service delivery and zero tolerance to corruption.
He lauded the bank’s intervention in education; agriculture, healthcare, sanitation and water supply, climate change, social protection and governance reform initiatives.
Earlier, Chaudhuri said he led the bank’s team to inspect some of its ongoing projects and seal relationships with the new administration in the state.
He said the visit was aimed at discussing issues relating to the bank’s projects in the state, and to solidify existing relationships between them as well as chart more mutual areas of collaborations.
Chaudhuri assured continued support to the state in view of its strategic importance.
