Ogun 2023: There can only be one PDP candidate — Adebutu fires back at Showunmi

Bankole Taiwo, Abeokuta

The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu has stated that although there can be many aspirants for a position but after a primary election, only a candidate will fly the party’s flag for an election.

Adebutu, who spoke at the inaugural meeting of the Ogun Central PDP Campaign Council held at OOPL, Abeokuta, revealed that his detractors has misfired by concentrating on media hype, while he continues to strengthen his political base across the 236 wards of the state and never relent in selling his workable manifesto to the good people of Ogun State.

The former federal lawmaker who represented Remo federal constituency between 2015 and 2019 was apparently replying Otunba Segun Showunmi, who had said that loyalists of Adebutu should rejoice a little less over his (Adebutu’s) recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s governorship candidate for Ogun State.

Showunmi, who is also laying claim to be the party’s governorship candidate for the state had in a statement on Wednesday revealed that, the party’s list of candidates for 2023 elections as published by INEC couldn’t be the final until a lawsuit he instituted at Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta seeking for dissolution of the state executives of the party was dispensed with

Adebutu has however implored the media to, at all level and time, to balance their reports and continue to serve their roles as the fourth estate of the realm by informing the society right.

Meanwhile, the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade reiterated his commitment and love for his political mentor and leader, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the immediate past governor of the state at the meeting.

Akinlade posited that, although the detractors might be spinning lies to soil their relationship, he continue to hold Senator Ibikunle Amosun in high esteem and very certain that the hard days would soon be over.

Triple A, as fondly called, appealed to his loyalists to be steadfast, engage in issues-based campaign free of crisis and ensure to deliver their respective domains for the PDP in the 2023 general elections.
