The Governor of the State of Osun, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola on Thursday evening submitted his nomination form at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.
Addressing journalists after the submission, Oyetola took time to roll out the achievements of his administration in less than four years in office. According to the Governor, these landmark achievements have earned him endorsements and a lot of awards from the general public and organizations. One of his recent awards being the Nigerian NewsDirect Best Governor and Man of the Year.
“In the area of good relationship with the royal father and artisans, we have done well with all of them and that’s why we have a lot of endorsements coming in from most of them asking me to continue.
“By the little achievements, I’ve received awards of The Best Governor of the year from Business Day, Best Governor of the year award from Champions Newspaper, Best Governor of the year from Blueprint, recently the Most Outstanding Leaders in Government and Citizens Welfare from AIT and recently again, I received the award of The Best Governor and Man of the Year from The Nigerian NewsDirect.
“These are things that clearly indicate that we are really on the right course.”
The governor further stated that so far, his government has been able to deliver on his campaign promises, especially when it comes to security and welfare of the people adding that, under his watch, these two have been the major priority.
“I thank God that some three and half years ago I was here to address you and I have reason to thank God that so far so good, we’ve been in government for about three years three months or so, we’ll be exactly four years in November. We made some promises and I believe to a very large extent, we kept all our promises in spite of the paucity of funds.
“The primary purpose of any government is security and welfare of the people, so we take security and welfare of the people as a matter of priority. In the area of welfare we’ve been paying salary and pension on a monthly basis since the inception of this administration.
“ We’ve actually supported our people in the area of food. We have the Osun Food Support Scheme that takes care of the vulnerable. Every month, we support up to thirty thousand vulnerables using the world Bank Social register,” Oyetola said.
Speaking on his achievements in health sector, Governor Oyetola said his target is to make health facilities as cheaper for and closer as possible to the good people of the State of Osun
“In addition to that, we’ve done so much in the area of health. As I speak we’ve revitalised not less than 320 primary health centres across the entire State. The intention is to ensure that our people have access to health care without necessarily traveling far distance, the intention is to have one Health Care Centre per ward, we have 332 wards.
“ In addition to that, we try to ensure that we fix three of the General Hospitals for referral purposes and we are working on others. We set up the Osun Health Insurance Scheme to take care of the vulnerables to ensure that nobody in the state will have the pain of not having access to healthcare simply because he or she doesn’t have the money,” he added.
He used the opportunity to vow not to relent in giving his best to the state if given opportunity to do more.
“In all these areas, we believe relatively speaking, we have done fairly wellell and we believe if we are given the opportunity again, it will continue. I will continue to improve on what I have been able to do despite the paucity of funds.
“In the area of rural roads, we’ve done so much. I won’t give this credit to myself alone, I have very able cabinet members. It’s a collective responsibility, so I believe if given opportunity again to run for another four years, I will turn around the fortunes of the state in a manner that will be so surprising to everybody.”
Nigerian NewsDirect had last month reported that Governor Oyetola formally received the expression of intention and nomination forms for governorship election obtained on his behalf by his friends and political associates.
The Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC) had fixed the gubernatorial election in the state for July 16, 2022.
