Ekiti residents groan over hike in price of cooking gas, other commodities

By Mike Adebayo, Ado-Ekiti

Some residents of Ado-Ekiti in Ekiti State, have expressed displeasure over the continuous increase in the price of cooking gas and other goods.

The residents who spoke with Nigerian NewsDirect in Ado-Ekiti, said the rise in the price from less than N350 to between N650 and N700 naira per kilogram was worrisome as it had further compounded their hardship.

One of them, Mr Segun Adebanjo said: “I don’t know maybe government don’t want us to eat again because this is becoming hard everyday on us as I could not afford to fill my gas cylinder due to the increase.”

Another concerned resident, Mrs Bukola Ajayi maintained that, “If the price is too much and if we continue like this we don’t know what price we will buy in December time.”

They complained that the present administration under the leadership of president Muhammadu Buhari must do everything possible to address the inflation rate in the country to save Nigerians from hardship.

The residents called on government to find lasting solution to the problem as they could not bear it any longer.

Nigerian NewsDirect gathered that as a result of the unbearable price of the gas and other commodities such as rice, semo, beans, some of the residents have resorted to using charcoal and firewood to cook which is inimical to their health, they stated.
