Police seize 200 wraps of narcotics in Calabar
The Nigeria Police Force has seized about 200 wraps of narcotics in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, south-south Nigeria.
The Commissioner for Police, Aminu Alhassan told journalists in Calabar that the seizures were made during separate raids by Operation Akpakwu, Anti-Cultism/Kidnapping Squad, ACKS, as well as Operation Puff Adder.
Alhassan said, “the police recovered thirty-one wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp, a walkie talkie and a loaded locally made pistol at a community in Calabar. The items were recovered after we followed up on a distress call.
“A joint operation of Op Akpakwu and Anti-Cultism/Kidnapping Squad raided a black spot off Marian road and arrested four suspects with One hundred and fifty-six wraps of Skons, weed.
“Also, Op Puff Adder raided another black spot at Marian by Ediba where hard drugs are being sold. Five suspects were busted with substance suspected to be cocaine and Indian hemp were recovered,” the Police Commissioner stated.
He said that in the spirit of dominating and reclaiming the public space from criminal element bent on breaching the internal security order across the state, the command would not rescind in the face of challenges in crime prevention.
“It is the command’s determination to squarely surmount the daunting security challenges, which include pockets of kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and most worrisome of all intra/inter communal crises over land across the state as a tourist’s destination,” he reiterated.
He commended concerned Nigerians for supporting the command to achieve success through intelligence information sharing and urged the people not to relent in assisting the police.
The Commissioner for Police said, “we may not have achieved these without the tacit co-operation of the State Government, corporate bodies, well-meaning citizens, the public, officers and men of the command and others. We still expect more collaboration from the people in order to subdue emerging security threats headlong.”
Alhassan warned that the command would not tolerate any unwholesome behavior from any individual or group, who may want to jeopardize the peace in the state or pose a threat to law abiding citizens.
He also warned leaders of various communities and the people to “eschew violent confrontations, wanton destruction of valuable properties and unlawful killings and maiming of innocent citizens in the name of land dispute.
“The police command remains resolute in discharging its constitutional duties and will go all out against any person or group of persons, who may want to take laws into their hands or act contrary to the laws of the land,” he added.
