21,971 candidates apply for 13,000 UNILORIN admission slots

A total of 21,971 candidates have registered for the 2025/2026 Post-UTME screening exercise at the University of Ilorin (Unilorin), the institution’s Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre has confirmed.

Director of the CBT Centre, Prof Kamilu Rauf, disclosed on Monday that the university has only 13,000 admission slots available, signalling intense competition among applicants.

The exercise, which commenced on August 28 and will run until September 4, includes 20,220 candidates from the UTME and 1,751 Direct Entry (DE) applicants.

Prof Rauf noted that this year’s figure represents a significant rise compared with 2024, which recorded 15,946 UTME and 1,175 DE candidates.

“About 12,856 candidates gained admission in the 2024/2025 academic session. This year, we have over 4,200 additional UTME candidates and 576 more Direct Entry applicants, demonstrating that an increasing number of students are choosing Unilorin as their preferred institution,” he said.

The surge, Rauf explained, reflects Unilorin’s growing reputation for academic excellence, an uninterrupted academic calendar, and efficient administration.

“Our slogan is ‘Better by Far,’ and candidates know that four years means four years, and five years means five years at Unilorin, without disruptions,” he added.

Candidates and parents were advised to follow all examination guidelines, including the prescribed dress code and the prohibition of electronic devices such as mobile phones in exam halls. Prof Rauf requested parents to avoid crowding the test centres, assuring them that all relevant information is available on the university website at www.unilorin.edu.ng.

He reassured applicants that the university is fully prepared to conduct a smooth and efficient screening exercise, stressing the importance of compliance with all regulations.
