The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Oladipupo Adebutu, has unveiled a broad development agenda focused on security, education, healthcare, agriculture, rural development, and local government autonomy, declaring that good governance remains the foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity in the state.

Adebutu made the declaration on Monday during a media parley held at Park Inn, Abeokuta, where he engaged journalists on his vision for Ogun State ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

The event was attended by the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Latifat Sowunmi-Kolapo, Ogun PDP Chairman, Abayomi Tella; Ogun Central Senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, as well as other party leaders and candidates.

Speaking, Adebutu identified insecurity as the most pressing challenge facing Nigeria and Ogun State, stressing that no meaningful development can occur in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.

According to him, ensuring the safety of lives and property would be the foremost responsibility of his administration if elected governor. He disclosed that over the years, he had personally supported security agencies through the provision of fuel, vehicle maintenance, logistics support, and other interventions aimed at enhancing their operational efficiency.

The PDP candidate argued that security agencies can only perform effectively when adequately equipped and supported by the government.

“The foremost challenge facing Nigeria today is insecurity. That is why security occupies the first position on our agenda. We cannot build a prosperous society without ensuring the safety of lives and property,” Adebutu stated.

As part of measures to strengthen community security, he advocated the installation of solar-powered streetlights across communities, noting that poorly lit environments often create opportunities for criminal activities.

According to him, he has invested close to N20 million in the installation of solar-powered streetlights in various communities over the past few years.

“In the last two to three years alone, I have spent nearly N20 million providing solar-powered streetlights in various communities. Under a government committed to good governance, every community should have access to a basic minimum standard of street lighting,” he said.

Adebutu also pledged to strengthen local government administration by granting greater autonomy to councils, arguing that development can only reach the grassroots when local authorities are empowered to make decisions and implement projects that directly impact their communities.

He maintained that security, accountability, and local government autonomy are interconnected pillars of effective governance.

“We will strengthen grassroots governance through greater local government autonomy. Development can only be accelerated when local councils are empowered to address the needs of their communities,” he said.
