The Presidential candidate of Labour Party and former two term governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi on Saturday assured that a new Nigeria that everyone could be proud of will be a reality should he be elected as the next President of the country.

Peter Obi gave this assurance while speaking during his party’s presidential rally held at Ake palace ground, Abeokuta.

Obi said that himself and his running mate, Datti Ahmed Baba have the track record and proven integrity to build a new Nigeria that will be comfortable and safe to dwell for everyone.

He explained that with the alarming level of insecurity, continued rise in poverty level, unemployment, deteriorating economy, there is no beating about the bush that the leadership of the country has failed woefully.

Obi said that himself and Datti Ahmed Baba have resolved to put the country back on the path of greatness and economic prosperity saying that they were quite passionate about building a new Nigeria and would leave no stone unturned to make Nigerians enjoy good governance.

He said “the coming February 25 presidential election is about pitching tent with strong character and integrity, it is about chosing people with strength and vitality, those who can make things happen. This election is not about religion because poverty does not know religion, unemployment transcends religion neither does insecurity know religion.

“This election is not about ethnicity or tribe, so, let nobody plays ethnicity card, it is not about tribe but about those who can deliver on good governance and qualitative leadership. You can hold us responsible, we promise to deliver on our electoral promises, we shall move the country from consumption to production, our schools will no longer be shut, those who are to spend four years won’t end up spending eight years.

“I therefore call on you all to go out in your millions and vote for Labour Party. You have voted for the umbrella it has leaked poverty on you, you have voted for brooms and here you are with poverty and all the hardship. So, vote for Labour Party and you wouldn’t regret it because our words will be our bond”.

Obi had earlier paid a visit to the palace of the Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo before addressing hundreds of youths at a town hall meeting held within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL

Meanwhile, the leader of the pan Yoruba sociopolitical group, Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo has told the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stop fooling himself, declaring that, the Northers will not vote for him.

Adebanjo advised Tinubu to withdraw his candidacy for his counterpart in Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi and save himself from the shame of losing at the polls.

The Afenifere leader stated this at the Presidential campaign rally of the LP in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Adebanjo who was accompanied by another leader of Afenifere, Senator Femi Okunronmu, said, Tinubu would be disappointed by the Northers at the polls.

The Afenifere leader described the LP as the new the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) which according to him would save Nigerians from the misrule of the APC.

Adebanjo said, “All those that know Tinubu should tell him, I have always told and I will tell him again, the Northers will not vote for him.

“He (Tinubu) should come back home now and support Obi because when they finally defeat him, he won’t have the courage to come back home again, if he comes back now, we will forgive him and take him back.

“I have told you before and I want to say it again, Labour Party is now NADECO, those of us supporting Obi are the ones that want good governance, we want Nigeria to be better, we want to liberate ourselves from the captive of the ruling class.

“We are behind Obi, leaders of progressive movement are behind Obi. Those fradusters parading themselves as Yoruba do not love the country. Yorubas do not take things that does not belong to other tribes. A Yoruba has been President before.”
