Zulum distributes N100m, provides shelter to 3,847 returnees in Damasak

Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has supervised the distribution of N100 million in cash and clothing materials to support vulnerable women and widows in Damasak, the administrative center of Mobar Local Government Council of the state.

The initiative reached over 20,000 beneficiaries, including housewives, widows, and individuals from internally displaced camps, with each recipient receiving N5,000 in cash and a traditional wrapper.

Governor Zulum also engaged with educators from local primary and secondary schools to address challenges facing the education sector, particularly focusing on teacher welfare.

To alleviate housing concerns for teachers relocating to Damasak, he approved the allocation of 10 units of two-bedroom bungalows.

In addition, Governor Zulum extended support to approximately 3,847 returnee households who had sought refuge in Niger Republic, offering food provisions, temporary shelter, and monetary assistance.

Each household head received N50,000 in cash, enabling them to access further government aid, including food supplies, mats, and blankets.

Since the transition of power in Niger Republic from civilian authorities to a military junta, thousands of families have returned to Nigeria, facing challenges such as lack of proper shelter.

Governor Zulum emphasized the importance of providing relief to these returnees, including essential items like blankets, mats, food, and other necessities.
