Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) has assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to conduct a free and  fair local government election

The Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) has assured that all necessary arrangements have been made to conduct a free, fair, and credible local government election scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024.

This was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the State’s Electoral Commission, Hon Bala Aliyu Gusau, when journalists visited the ZASIEC office to assess the level of preparedness ahead of the polls.

According to him, there have been several meetings with stakeholders and other relevant authorities to ensure acceptable local government elections, pointing out that ad hoc workers have been given adequate training for the success of the polls.

“We will not leave any stone unturned, as all eyes are on us to see the outcome of the election,” he added.

Speaking further, he said that over ten political parties in the state have expressed readiness to participate in the election and have all purchased their nomination forms.

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it is boycotting the local government election, citing indications that justice would be miscarried in the exercise.

The party further dragged ZASIEC to the Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, praying the court to stop the conduct of the polls, claiming that ZASIEC violated electoral laws.

APC argued that the electoral laws require that opposition parties be given at least three months’ notice to prepare for the polls, which it claimed ZASIEC failed to do.

Recall that on Tuesday, the Federal High Court dismissed the case on the grounds that it had no jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
