Zamfara police rescue 75-year-old victim after 2 months in bandits’ captivity

Zamfara State Police Command has rescued a 75-year-old man, Alhaji Muhammad Sheshi, a native of Enagi village in Edati Local Government Area of Niger State from kidnappers in Zamfara State.

According to a press statement signed and issued to newsmen in Gusau by Zamfara State Police spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, Sheshi was rescued by tactical operatives following intelligence report regarding the abduction of the the victim.

“In the course of debriefing, the victim informed the police that he was abducted in early October, 2022 by a large number of armed bandits who blocked Birnin Gwari – Kaduna Road and took many into the bush somewhere in Dansadau axis of Zamfara State,” the statement said.

The victim while at the Police Command headquarters, Gusau was medically checked at the Police clinic facility and later reunited with his family and relations.

The statement noted that Commissioner of Police Kolo Yusuf congratulated the rescued victim for regaining his freedom, and assured police’s continuous commitment to protect lives and property of the citizens in the state.

He, however, appealed to the general public to always give useful information to the security agencies in the State so as to end the security challenges bedevilling the entire state.

According to him: “These bandits live and eat with community members, the villagers know them very well and the community members could assist the security agencies to do their work perfectly.

“Security operatives are not ghosts neither do they have any magic wand but depend on intelligence reports from the locals to confront the bandits in their enclaves.”

Yusuf assured that every information would be treated in total confidence, stressing that security of lives and properties is the responsibility of all law-abiding citizens and not the sole responsibility of security agencies.
