Zamfara govt tasks journalists not to destroy state with unsubstantiated reports

The Zamfara State government has advised journalistsin the state to be wary of sending unadulterated reports that would not destroy or damage the reputation of the government and people of the state.

The State Commissioner of Local Government and Community Development, Abubakar Dambo who disclosed this said journalists could damage the state and would not be doing the government any good.

“We are now in a digital village and there is no need for anybody to mess up the system even though it is very clear that Zamfara State is a colony of banditry in the whole federation,” he lamented.

The commissioner said this while receiving members of the Correspondents Chapel chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Zamfara Council who paid him a solidarity visit.

Abubakar said that no meaningful development could be achieved in the state without the positive contribution of journalists.

“I want to call the attention of the journalists to work according to the ethics of the profession. Journalists in any given society are paramount and what you write good or bad reports could lead to either hell or heaven as we shall all give account for our deeds before the Almighty Allah in the hereafter,” he said.

He enjoined journalists to shun over-blowing reportage that could cause anxiety, be biased or damage the reputation of anyone for politics, saying that his ministry will remain resolute to work hand in hand with the media where necessary for the development of the state.

Responding, the newly elected National Secretary Zone A of the Union, Comrade Abdulrazak Bello Kaura noted that they were in the commissioner’s office to congratulate him over his appointment and soliciting the support of his ministry to attain the desired objectives.
