Yuletide: Police ban sale, use of fireworks in Nasarawa

The police in Nasarawa State have placed a ban on the sales and use of fireworks in the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by ASP Ramhan Nansel, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Police Command in the state on Friday in Lafia.

Nansel quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, Adesina Soyime, as ordering strict enforcement of the ban on the sales and use of fireworks and other explosives.

He said that the ban was aimed at preventing hoodlums from using it as a cover to perpetrate their nefarious activities during the yuletide.

The police boss also urged community leaders, parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against indulging in buying/igniting of fireworks.

Adesina also warned dealers of the commodity to stop forthwith, as anyone caught would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He urged the personnel must be professional and civil in their relationship with members of the public in the discharge of their duties.

The police commissioner also enjoined them to shun acts of corruption and extortion, warning that anyone found wanting would be decisively dealt with.

He also said the police would collaborate with other sister security agencies and stakeholders to put in place adequate crime prevention measures before, during and after the festive season.

Adesina added that the police would deploy personnel to man all the black spots across the state with a view to sending criminal packing.
