YPP reiterates commitment to zoning; Flaunts Senator Bassey Albert as next Governor

Akwa Ibom Young Progressives Party, YPP, has insisted that zoning of the Governorship position to Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the state in the forthcoming elections would engender enduring peace, equity, justice and fair play.

Chairman, East Itam 111, Ward 5, Mr. Nelson Effiong was speaking on the sideline of a meeting held recently in Itu Local Government to consolidate on their ongoing campaigns for the realization of the Governorship aspiration of Senator Bassey Albert Akpan.

He said, it is worth reminding the people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency and the generality of the people in Akwa Ibom that, for several years since democracy was enthroned in the country after the military interegnum, the area had given its all to other Federal Constituencies in Uyo Senatorial District and others to produce governors but, for now, they should jettison the attempt by people with divisive tendencies to marginalize Itu/Ibiono Ibom from having a shot as Governor at the Government House in May.

Mr. Effiong also said, people may argued that zoning is unconstitutional but, it cannot be denied that, it is a realistic option to guarantee peace, equity, justice and fair play.

According to him, “as we will be marching out in March 11 to vote for people we feel are capable of uniting the state and ushering in development; let us not forget to vote for that man, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan as our Governor.

“He is a man loved by the people and pledged that he will make Akwa Ibom proud.

“Many times, he has performed at various levels of his public life as commissioner for finance under Governor Godswill Akpabio and currently, Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Therefore, I called on the people of Akwa Ibom not to relent in their support for a man whose love and service to the people is not in doubt”.

He charged the people of East Itam Ward 5 to be guided by recognising the time tested dictum by Martin Luther King Jr that, “we are held together by a simple garment of oneness, tied together by a single network of mutuality, what affected one directly, affected others indirectly… ”

The meeting was attended by; the Dean of PA’s to Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, Prince Victor Effiong, a renowned economist and stock broker, Mr. Bokime Bassey, Chairman, Board of Trustees, AKUF, Hon. Charles Ndanyongmong, YPP Chapter Officers, Ward Chairmen, Ward 5 Exco Members, YPP senatorial candidate, Barr.
