Youths make up 80% lawmakers in Cross River Assembly – Speaker
Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem has said the new dispensation of the parliament constitutes more than 80 per cent of youths.
He spoke on Monday when a delegation of the National Youth Council of Nigeria visited him in his office.
The Speaker disagreed that Nigerian youths are leaders of tomorrow, saying they are the ones leading now as many occupy sensitive positions in government.
” I don’t believe in the saying that the youths are leaders of tomorrow, youths are today’s leaders.
“This 10th Assembly is made up of 80% youths. Youths must rise to the challenge, support each other instead of pulling down yourselves, aspire for public offices and also position themselves for leadership”, he advised.
He assured them of his support and urged them to be united, supportive of each other and focused to achieve their aspirations.
Also advising the youth leaders, a member representing Yakurr 2 constituency and Chairman House Committee on Youth and Sports Development, urged the youths to support Governor Bassey Otu’s government.
Chairman of the group, Dan Obu had earlier in his speech, congratulated the Speaker on his success at the polls and subsequent emergence as Speaker and requested a closer working relationship with the Speaker.
