A member of Osun State House of Assembly, Adewumi Adeyemi, has advised governors across the country to focus on how to leave lasting legacies after their tenures.
Adeyemi who represents Obokun state constituency said the vision of governors should be beyond four years.
The lawmaker maintained that continuity in governance would not only lead to better service delivery but foster a stable and progressive political landscape across the country.
Adeyemi made these disclosures while reacting to the recent launch of the Lagos blue train.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday, he advised the governors to use Lagos and Osun States as examples where projects executed by governors are being sustained by their successors.
He added that it will amount to wastage of resources if projects executed by a governor are not continued or sustained by his successors.
He said projects executed by former governors in Osun improved the lives of our citizens regardless of the political party in power.
Adeyemi said, “Our vision should be beyond four years. There is a need for Nigerian leaders to prioritise continuity in their governance strategies.
“Lagos Blue Train project initiated by former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, has been diligently pursued by subsequent administrations and is a prime illustration of the benefits that come with sustained commitment to a common goal.
“The road channelization projects in Osun State, spanning the tenures of former governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Rauf Aregbesola, Gboyega Oyetola, and the current governor, Ademola Adeleke is also an example.
“Continuity in governance would not only lead to better service delivery but also foster a more stable and progressive political landscape. These projects have seen steady progress and improvement over time, with each administration building upon the foundations laid by its predecessor.
“This is a clear demonstration that progress knows no political boundaries. When our leaders prioritise continuity, it’s the people who benefit the most. These infrastructure projects in Osun State, regardless of the party in power, have consistently improved the lives of our citizens”.
