Yobe govt sets up committee to source, manage funds to boost education sector

Yobe State Government has approved a six-man committee to serve as Board of Trustees of the State’s Education Trust Fund (YETFUND) as part of the efforts to revive the education sector.

The Board is to receive, execute and account for all donations to ensure effective and judicious administration of the fund in reviving the education sector in the state, in accordance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020.

This was disclosed on Sunday in a statement made available by the Press Secretary to the State Government, Shuaibu Abdullahi.

The statement indicated that Engr. Muhammad Ali Kachalla Abubakar is to serve as the Chairman of the Board, while Mohammed Bukar; Malam Sule Dauda; Alh. Ballama Manu; Prof. Maimuna Waziri are members with Prof. Mamman Yusuf Yusufari, SAN, as Secretary.

Earlier, the State Government had planned to deduct ten percent of workers’ November salaries to boost education.

However, following a wider criticism where NLC in the state agreed on 2.5%, the government suspended the planned deductions but said that civil servants can make voluntary personal donations.
