Yobe Govt. enrolls 11,718 poor, vulnerable into basic healthcare scheme

Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has approved the commencement of Phase-2 enrolment of 11,718 poor and vulnerable citizens into the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) scheme across the 17 local government areas of the state.

Dr Babagana Tijjani, the Executive Secretary, Yobe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, disclosed this on Monday in a statement in Damaturu.

Tijjani said the Phase 2 electronic enrolment process, which targeted 11,718 beneficiaries, would to be conducted at ward level by BHCPF.

He noted that the agency had already enrolled 10,782 beneficiaries under the Phase-1 of the exercise, which made the total number of the beneficiaries 22,500 across the 17 state.

Tijjani said the aim of the programme was to reduce maternal, neonatal and children under five mortalities towards the attainment of global target.

“The scheme will in addition, ensure that emergency medical conditions receive the urgent care they deserve to minimise mortality and morbidity from these conditions,” he added.

He also said the state government had fulfilled all financial, technical and policy commitments for the implementation of the scheme in the state.

The primary target group, according to him, are pregnant women, children under five, aged above 85 years, physically challenged, orphans and poorest of the poor amongst the indigenes of the state.
