Yann Sommer retires from international football

Swiss international goalkeeper Yann Sommer announced his retirement from the national team on Monday, ending a distinguished career that began in 2012.

Sommer’s announcement marks the end of a notable career characterized by outstanding performances and dedication. According to a statement on the Swiss Football Association’s website, Sommer said, “After careful consideration, I have decided to end my career as the goalkeeper for the Swiss national team. It has been a great honor and privilege to represent my country at the highest level for twelve years and 94 international matches.”

He continued, “With the conclusion of a remarkable final phase at the European Championship in Germany, where I also spent unforgettable years in the Bundesliga, the time has come for me to say goodbye.”

Sommer, known for his sharp reflexes and leadership, leaves as the most-capped goalkeeper in Swiss history. He will now focus on his club career with Inter Milan.
