The Vice-Chancellor, Trinity University, Yaba Lagos, Prof. Charles Ayo, has congratulated the former Minister of Finance for emerging as Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
Ayo told newsmen on Tuesday in Ota, Ogun, that it was a thing of joy that Okonjo-Iweala was the first female and first African to be appointed as DG-WTO.
Following the appointment, he said it was imperative for the Nigerian Government to create a conducive environment to engender creativity for Nigerians to excel both locally and at the global stages of competitions.
The don, therefore, called for the revitalisation of the education system that promotes innovation and gets Nigerians back on track to enable them win more internationally.
He said the appointment of Okonjo-Iweala as the DG of the world trade body was a good omen for the country and the African continent.
Ayo expressed optimism that the new DG would not fail to make Nigeria proud, given her pedigree as an accomplished economist with immense experience.
“Her emergence portends hope for Nigerians.
“Nigerians are intelligent and no pushovers in their fields of endeavour,’’ the VC said.
Ayo, therefore, called on the Federal Government to improve the quality of education so that Nigerians could be part of major players in the international community.
