Worldskills Africa competition set to take place in Zambia in 2025

No fewer than 1,500 students from across Africa will gather in Zambia to compete in 20 skills categories at the WorldSkills Africa 2025, a government official has said.

Brilliant Habeenzu said that the upcoming competition slated for April 2025, would provide the young people an opportunity to gain knowledge on how to survive and earn a living.

Habeenzu is Zambia’s Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Technology and Science.

Habeenzu said at the opening of a local skills competition in Lusaka that skills development was a core focus of the government.

He expressed the hope that the young people would compete favourably with their peers from other African countries.

According to him,  the event will significantly enhance the hospitality sector and other related industries, which will offer diverse services in the southern city of Livingstone, where the competition will be held.

Precious Lisulo, the World Skills Zambia Programme Manager, also said that preparations for the event were progressing well, adding that a team of experts had been identified and trained to mentor Zambian participants.

Zambia would become the fourth country to host the World Skills Africa competition following its inauguration in Tanzania in 2016.

The competition aims to give youths a competitive advantage in vocational education and training, improve their employability and foster sustainable economic growth in African countries.
