World Peace Day: NGO conducts house-to-house campaign on peaceful coexistence

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Eye Opener Women Foundation said it carried out a week-long house-to-house campaign to promote peaceful coexistence in Kaduna State.

Mrs Magret Julius, President of the NGO said in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Kaduna that the campaign was for the people to appreciate that there is no alternative to peace.

“Peace is very critical for every country to achieve better development, hence the need for all to live in peace irrespective of religious or cultural differences.

“Peace is all about accepting differences and having the ability to listen, recognize, respect and appreciate others, so as to live peacefully and united.

“As peace advocates, we want people to recognise that there can be no meaningful development without peace and the peace of every nation begins with the individual and family.

“We have gone round the city of Kaduna to draw the attention of the people on the role they need to play in restoring peace in Nigeria.

“My prayer is for God to forgive us and restore peace to Nigeria, and the foundation will continue to advocate for peace at all levels,” Mrs Julius said.

She urged Nigerians to shun all forms of divisions and work together for a united, peaceful country.

The World Peace Day was set aside by the United Nations to be marked on Sept. 21 every year, to strengthen the ideals of peace through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire across the world.

The day promotes global solidarity for building a peaceful and sustainable world.
