Jubilation rend the atmosphere of the Oyo State Secretariat on Friday as the state government announced a six-month extension of the wage award for state workers.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde made the announcement on Friday during the commissioning of the newly dualised 12.5km Challenge-Apata Road, renamed Theophilus Akinyele Way.
This extension builds upon the initial three-month wage award implemented in October 2023 to help workers cope with the impact of fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.
The ceremony, attended by dignitaries including Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, saw Governor Makinde highlight various initiatives undertaken by his administration to improve the lives of Oyo residents.
He also addressed the significance of the newly constucted road, stating it would educe transportation challenges for residents.
Govrnor Mbah who was the gest of honour also echoed these sentiments, praisig the project as a testaent to Governor Makinde’s dedication to leaving a lasting positive impact.
Earlier, Professor Daud Sangodoyin, Commissioner forPublic Works and Transportation, outlined the benefits of the road project.
He explained that the road is a development which fosers the seamless movement of people, goods, and services, while serving as a crucial link to neighboring states like Lagos and Ogun.
