Woman docked for allegedly stealing property valued N282,000

Police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 42-year-old woman, Afusatu Ajenifuja, in a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing property valued at N282,000.

Ajenifuja, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 14, at about 11. 30 p.m. at Olorunda Str., Morogbo area of Lagos State.

Okuoimose alleged that the defendant stole one Samsung J6 phone valued at N120,000, one power bank valued at N15,000, one USB cord valued at N1,000 and MTN recharge card valued at N4,000.

“The defendant also stole cash of N142,000 kept in the room, making the total value of property stolen to be N282,000, belonging to one Funke Ibiaho, the complainant.

“The defendant was leaving together with the complainant in the same apartment. When Ibiaho was not around; she stole the property kept in the room and ran away.

“The defendant was traced to her mother’s house where she was arrested by the Police,” he said.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000, with two sureties in like sum.

Adefioye adjourned the case until April 26, for mention.
