Woman charged in Kaduna court for allegedly assaulting neighbour

A 34-year-old woman, Jamila Hamza, has been charged in Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting her neighbor.

Hamza, a resident of Daura Road in Kaduna, is facing three charges, including assault, deliberate damage, and breach of peace.According to the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, the incident took place on December 4 at Hamza’s apartment.

It is alleged that Hamza brutally beat her co-tenant, Farida Garba, causing severe injuries.

The court heard that Hamza not only assaulted Garba but also deliberately damaged her property.

The altercation resulted in a breach of peace within the residential area.The defendant appeared before the court on Wednesday to face the charges. The case will now proceed to trial, where evidence will be presented to determine Hamza’s guilt or innocence.

Assault cases like these highlight the importance of maintaining peaceful coexistence within communities. Such incidents can disrupt the harmony and safety of neighborhoods.

He said the assault was the result of a disagreement between the defendant and the complainant over a pail of water.

He added that during the altercation, the defendant tore the complainant’s clothing, poured water on her, and beat her to a pulp, noting that the offences violated Sections 166, 171, and 337 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.

Sections 171 and 337 both mandate a three-year prison sentence for assault and property damage.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

He mandated that the surety be gainfully employed and provide proof of a two-year tax payment to the Kaduna State Government, adjourning the hearing until January 15th
