Woman, 23, docked for allegedly receiving stolen property
A 23-year-old woman, Afuye Christianah, on Monday appeared in an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving stolen property.
Christianah, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of receiving stolen property.
The prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in November 2020 in Ikere-Ekiti.
Akinwale alleged that the defendant received 32 inches LG plasma television set from one Olaoye Toyin, one of the stolen items looted from Police Divisional Headquarters, Anaye, in Ikere-Ekiti.
He said the offence contravened Section 427 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
Akinwale urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
Christianah, however, pleaded not guilty.
The defence’s Counsel , Mr Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that the defendant would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Lanre Owoleso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N75,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Owoleso ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant of not below grade level 15 or traditional ruler with three years evidence of tax clearance.
He adjourned the case until Feb.16 for hearing.
