The 15th edition of the Wole Soyinka International Cultural Exchange (WSICE) has come to a close, marking the end of a month-long celebration of Professor Wole Soyinka’s 90th birthday.
The programme, which aimed to promote education, cultural exchange, and youth development, featured essay competitions, advocacy, and performances in poetry, drama, and spoken word.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to outstanding young achievers, including Princess Marinay, Valentine Udemadu, Haoma Worgwu, and Mofinfunoluwa Atilola, a child poet.
Executive Director of Lagos Business, Wema Bank Plc, Mr. Oluwole Ajimisinmi, presented the awards, stating, “Wema Bank is committed to youth development, which is why we are excited to support WSICE 2024 and the Wole Soyinka at 90 events.”
The WSICE 2024 programme also featured exhibitions, roundtables, film screenings, live music performances, and poetry recitals in London, showcasing Soyinka’s contributions to literature, culture, and human rights advocacy.
Project Director, Foluke Michael, emphasised the commitment to youth development and sustainability, stating, “We are dedicated to continuing the post-celebration project activities through the platforms of African I.D.E.N.T.I.T.Y, The Vision of the Child, and Solution17 Green.”
The celebration of Wole Soyinka’s 90th birthday has honoured his legacy and paves the way for future generations to carry forward his ideals and contributions.
