The Team Leader of Women of Inestimable Value (WIV) Academy, Mrs Blessing Eze, has urged participants of its leadership programme to impact positively on the lives of residents in their communities through social entrepreneurship.
Eze gave the advice at the maiden graduation ceremony of the Academy in Lagos on Monday.
According to her, a social entrepreneur is a person who explores business opportunities that have a positive impact on the community, society or the world, of which the programme has thoroughly addressed.
“This programme is part of delivering our social responsibility.
“It’s for social entrepreneurs, where NGO Founder’s, Human Rights activists and Humanitarians are trained on how to navigate the challenges that comes in the process of carrying out their duties,” she said.
“So, the graduands, having undergone six months virtual lectures, three months field work and three months mentoring, have all it takes to live up to expectations with regards to social issues” she added.
“About 25 of our members took part in the one-year programme where they were exposed to how start business, run social initiatives (NGO), write winning scholarship and grants proposals for social ventures.
“I urge you graduands to be ambassadors, reflecting the mission and vision of the Academy; by so doing, the positive change and development we desire will be achieved,” she added.
She expressed confidence that the programme would be of great benefit to the society as the pioneer cohorts would assist many young social entrepreneurs and founders on how to run their social initiatives with passion.
According to her, the programme will be an annual and open event.
