Wildlife Day celebrations: Kano State Agency to procure elephants, Zebra in 2021 –MD

Dr Saidu Gwadabe, Managing Director, Kano State Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency, has said that the Agency would procure more elephants and Zebra  in 2021.

Gwadabe disclosed this at an event organised to celebrate the World Wildlife Day, at the Botanical Garden, Kano, on Wednesday.

World Wildlife Day is celebrated globally every March 3, and the theme of  the 2021 event was: “Forest and Livelihood, Sustaining People and Planet.”

“The aim of the celebration is to enlighten the public on the importance of wildlife and forests. This year, we engaged about 50 secondary and university students, from private and public schools to know more about wildlife.

“We want to catch them young by letting them know how to promote planting in their environments for beautification and to save lives of endangered animals.

“The students will see different species of animals within the Agency,” he said.

Gwadabe said  besides procuring elephants and zebra, among others, in 2021, the agency would also renovate 18 quarters for game reserve staff at Falgore forest as part of improving staff welfare.

He urged the general public to stop cutting of trees, but endeavour to cultivate the habit of planting more trees.
