The governor of Ogun state, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured thousands of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) who defected into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state on Tuesday that he had deliberately reserved some political appointments for them to ensure everyone is given a sense of belonging.

While the former Deputy governor in the state, Alhaja Salmot Badru led other PDP bigwigs such as Chief Pegba Otemolu, Apostle Dave Salako, Hon Waliu Taiwo, Chief Ibukun Ojosipe, Otunba Osinubi (Wesco) among others, Prince Gboyega Isiaka, ADC governorship candidate in the state during last election led other top-notch members of the party such as Chief Joju Fadairo, Dipo Sofowora, Tony Ojeshina, Yemi Sodimu among others.

Gov Abiodun who was quite excited over the large number of previous opposition members and their leaders joining the ruling party said that with this defection it was quite obvious that the only existing political party in the state was APC.

He disclosed that the new comers into the party need not fret or be troubled as adequate provision have been made to ensure that they were well integrated into his government saying that there were many political appointments he had reserved for them.

The governor urged those who wanted to return to the party to follow the laid down rules, come in through the main entrance saying his government won’t recognise those who thought they could come into the party through windows or backdoor.

Abiodun urged the new defectors to return to their various wards and be comfortable members of APC appealing to other members of the party not to discriminate but make everyone welcoming as the challenge of developing the state remained the business of all.

Chief Yemi Sanusi, Caretaker Chairman of APC in Ogun described the mass defection as milestone in the political history of the state attributing this to the successful implementation of Gov Abiodun’s policy of inclusiveness.

Sanusi described the defectors as pillars and cornerstones of ADC and PDP in Ogun state urging them to join hands in strengthening the ruling party while also joining the governor to further lift up the state in all fronts.

APC Southwest Zonal Secretary, Ayo Afolabi commended the decision of the former PDP and APC members to join the ruling party describing the move as trailblazing saying that the moves only suggested that the state was on its way to becoming one party state.
