The Gubernatorial Candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Engr. Danagogo Wenike-Briggs, has said that plans are underway to develop the Agricultural sector of the state and as well provide food security.
Wenike-Briggs said this when he spoke with journalists Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
He said that young people must be encouraged to consider agriculture an alternative means of livelihood and means of income generation.
The YPP guber candidate explained that agriculture can do a lot of magic to any people or government who are sensitive about growth and development.
According to him, the sector is too large to help and generate income needed for the transformation of the economy of any serious minded government or people.
“We in YPP will consider agricultural development. We want people to think less on consumption and more on production. We must make sure that our government will provide everything needed for a safe landing.” he said.
He explained that the Agricultural sector has the capacity to replace the oil sector, but expressed regrets that no government has given it an adequate attention.
On security, he hinted that there will be a foreign partnership that will make it a reality, so that the labour of our farmers will not be in vain.
He maintained that food security will also be possible by serious government involvement in the means of production, and added that ‘you can not secure what you do not have.’
“Before talking of food security, we must first and foremost, talk about its production. That way, we stand at a better vintage position to discuss other things that are incidental to it. That is why we need all of you, including the media to join us,” he said.
He also talked about boosting the aquatic live of the state to give a relief to the riverine areas and as well boost their economic activities.
It was learnt that Wenike-Briggs will reposition Rivers state with his 3E, agenda , Education, Entrepreneur and Employment.
