Weekend tragedy as fallen truck crushes woman to death in her car
Tragedy struck over the weekend at the Alapere area of Ogudu in Lagos when a fully loaded 40fts Mack articulated truck fell on a Nissan car with registration number ABJ 692 BG killing instantly a woman at the rear of the car.
Luckily the car driver survived unhurt with help from the officials of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) who were on ground.
According to the Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, the driver of the Mack articulated truck with his motor-boy ran away immediately the fatal accident occurred.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the Mack truck which was fully loaded was on high speed and lost control as a result of brake failure, it subsequently rammed into the moving Nissan car by N.N.P.C inward Alapere, Ogudu along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos.
LASTMA official, Alabi Olukayode (Zone 2, Ogudu/Alapere) disclosed that the agency handed over the evacuated dead body to police men from Alapere Police Station.
According to Zebra Alabi Olukayode, “LASTMA officials and passers-by including the LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) were involved in the rescue operations.”
Other emergency responders at the scene of the fatal accident include Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Police.
Also at the accident scene were the LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA Director of Traffic Incidents, Event Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance, Mr. Hakeem Adeosun and the LASTMA rescue team.
General Manager of LASTMA Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki however warned motoring public particularly truck drivers to stop over speeding and ensure their vehicles are properly checked including the braking system before embarking on any journey within or outside the State.
