We won’t play with our youth population – LASG

….they must emerge as global players – Youth Commissioner, Dawodu

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has assured its resolute stand not to joke with matters relating to youth development in the State.

This is just as it promised to commit more time and resources towards policies, programmes and projects that would ultimately improve the lots of youths in the State.

The Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr Olusegun Dawodu speaking on the 2022 International Youth Day said the State will augment efforts to enable Lagos youths emerge as global players in all spheres of life.

“A nation that loves its future must not play with the youth population. That is the reason in Lagos State the present administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has promised to do more to ensure that our youths are given the wherewithal required to enable them emerge as global players in all spheres of life,” he said in a statement made available to our correspondent.

Dawodu stated that the quick resuscitation of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (Lagos Chapter) which had been comatose before the present administration came on board was primarily aimed at creating a veritable platform for the youths to air their views and actualise their aspirations.

According to him, the Ministry of Youth and Social Development had put in place numerous programmes amongst which are: Police Youth Dialogue, Youth Symposium, Ibile Youth Academy, Transformational Leadership to equip the youth with the requisite skills and knowledge for them to perform optimally in their endeavors.

He added, “the concerted efforts put into the review of Youth Policy, giving of grant to Voluntary Youth Organisations in Lagos, formation of Lagos State Youth Parliament as well as the building and upgrading of Youth Centres across the State are indicative of the determination of the State Government to give the youth a sense of belonging.”

The Commissioner spoke in line with the International Youth Day celebrated on August 12 to raise awareness about cultural and legal issues related to the youth. This year’s theme is: “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages.”
