We have built over 4,000 affordable houses in Ogun — Gov. Abiodun

…Announces plan to extend Blue, Red train lines

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has disclosed that the state has constructed more than 4,000 affordable homes as part of his administration’s Urban Regeneration Scheme.

Speaking over the weekend while inspecting ongoing road construction projects in the Ogun East Senatorial District, Governor Abiodun stated that his government has significantly advanced Ogun’s development, a legacy he believes must be maintained.

He revealed that in addition to the housing projects, his administration is also developing a dry port to attract further investment into the state. The affordable homes, built for middle- and upper-income earners, are located in Abeokuta, Ilaro, Sagamu, Iperu, Ijebu-Ode, and Ota.

Furthermore, the governor announced plans to extend the Blue Rail Line from Agbado to Kajola and the Red Line from Okokomaiko in Lagos to Agbara in Ogun State, enhancing the state’s transportation infrastructure.

“We have constructed over 4,000, approaching 5,000, affordable homes for middle- and upper-income earners across Ogun State. In Ilaro, the people are eager for me to inaugurate those homes. We have developments in Iperu, Sagamu, and two locations in Abeokuta,” he stated.

“Our Urban Regeneration efforts began at the GRA in Abeokuta, and we also initiated the PMB Estate in the city. Today, I am filled with pride as I look at all we have accomplished. Even the airport is progressing, with conveyor belts, metal detectors, and luggage scanners now operational. I told myself, ‘Something remarkable is happening in Ogun State,’ and it must continue.”

Governor Abiodun disclosed that 11 key roads, chosen for their economic significance, have been earmarked for reconstruction across the state, assuring that fairness and inclusivity would guide the distribution of projects.

Acknowledging the constraints of time and resources, he admitted that it would be impossible for any administration to reconstruct all the state’s roads within eight years.

“There are many roads we wish to repair, but the reality is that no administration can complete all necessary road projects in just eight years—it’s simply unattainable,” he explained.

“However, considering what we have achieved so far, I am proud to say that we have likely constructed more roads than two previous administrations combined.”

While addressing residents in Ode-Remo, Governor Abiodun revealed that the contract for the construction of the 12-kilometre Akaka-Ilara-Ilisan road has been awarded, and work on the Ode-Isara road will soon commence.

Inspecting the 15-kilometre Sagamu-Iperu-Ode-Sapaade road, he described it as a crucial bypass to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. He noted that the road was originally planned as a single carriageway but was expanded into a dual carriageway, thanks to the cooperation of residents who willingly removed their structures to accommodate the upgrade.

The governor also visited the 14-kilometre Sagamu-Ayepe road in the Sagamu Local Government Area, where he reported that the first phase of the project is progressing in an area with a high population density. He assured residents that all vital roads with economic benefits in Sagamu would be completed before the end of his tenure.

At the Igbeba junction-Yidi road, Governor Abiodun praised the quality of the construction, particularly the three-foot drainage system designed to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

Reflecting on the state of the road before its reconstruction, he likened it to a “swimming pool” and commended state engineers for developing a sustainable solution to the persistent erosion in the area. He assured residents that flooding issues would be resolved before the conclusion of his administration.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Ogun for entrusting him with the state’s leadership, Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his commitment to prioritising education, agriculture, youth empowerment, job creation, infrastructure, and other critical sectors to drive further development.
