We can’t afford to lose our guard on the fight against COVID-19 —Osun Government

The state government of Osun has restated its  commitment to curtail the surge of Covid-19 in the state.

This is also as the market and transport leaders called for maximum support for Oyetola’s administration in all ramifications

Speaking at the Public sensitization programme on Monday, Special Adviser to the Governor Oyetola on Civic Engagement Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye appealed to the residents to take responsibility in the fight against the scourge of virus ravaging the world.

At the event which took place at the Sabo/Irojo Market and major motor parks in Ilesha township, he noted that the motive behind the public sensitization programme across the markets and motor parks in the state is to reawaken the consciousness of the public to the reality that Covid-19 is real and much alive, claiming people’s lives.

He, however, appealed to the general public to strictly adhere with Covid-19 precautions bearing in mind that non-compliance may lead to the closure of the market.

He said, ” This program was organized because we want the residents of the state to stay safe and healthy.

“That is why we have intensified campaign against the resurgence of Covid-19  and we have critically evaluated the situation and remain convinced that urgent measures have to be taken to halt the spread.

“The whole nation is clearly in a dangerous period given the deadly nature of this second wave and we must act proactively to protect our people.

“We, therefore, urge all the stakeholders of thought in the state to collaborate with the government at all levels by taking up the responsibility in propagating risk communication and community engagement.

“The wellbeing of the people of Osun is Paramount to Governor Oyetola’s administration as this is why he had not left any stone unturned in ensuring every community in the state has the working health centre through the massive upgrade and revitalization of all health facilities across the nooks and crannies of the state. With the eyes of Oyetola’s on the improvement of health standard, we can’t afford to lose our guard in the containment of Covid-19.

Speaking at the rally, the Honourable representing Ijesa North Federal constituency, Hon. Babatunde Ayeni, Chairman State Universal Basic Education, Hon. Ajibola Famurewa, APC Chairman Ilesa East, Hon. Korede Idowu and Commissioner for Works and Transport, Hon. Remi  Omowaiye corroborated the Special Adviser stressing that Covid-19 protocols must be observed for total containment of the pandemic in the state.

In their parts, the Chairman Ilesa East, Hon. Akeem Olowoopejobori and his counterpart in Ilesa North East, Hon. Oladipupo Olaniyi also urged the market Men and women to remain vigilant and stay safe.

In their separate remarks,  Iyaloja of Sabo Ilesa Mrs Kehinde Olawale and Babaloja, Chief Olawale Olowoyeye also appealed to the market women to adhere with Covid-19 guidelines as the state can’t afford the experience of the first phase which led to total closure of the markets in the state.

Also speaking at the event, the Chairman National Union of Road Transport works in the state, Comrade Olalekan Folorunso, emphasized the need to follow all the necessary laid down guidelines to live in a free pandemic state

He further commended Oyetola’s  Performance in all the critical sectors of the state which have yielded positive growth and the consequent general wellbeing for the masses.
